Clay Shooting

For the shooting man, a big attraction at the Fair is the popular and growing sport of Clay Target Shooting. Scotland has a particularly strong following for the sport and this has resulted in Scotland having considerable success in competitions throughout the UK and indeed the world.

The sporting layout simulates what the game shooter would meet in the field. There are five stands at this year's Fair.

The Down the Line layout provides competition for the trap shooter. This is one of the oldest disciplines of clay target shooting and is very popular throughout the Highlands. The shooter is faced with clay targets being thrown randomly from an oscillating trap. It is enjoyable to watch and a must for the visitor to the Fair. The DTL competition is very popular at the Fair and it is recommended to enter early to avoid the queues.

THERE IS ALSO A NOVICE STAND FOR BEGINNERS. This allows anyone to have a go at clay target shooting regardless of age under expert supervision. Hire of shotgun, cartridges, clays, ear protection and instruction are included in the price of entry (£4.00).

The sporting and DTL competition will run between 10am and 6pm each day with prizes awarded both days with a High Gun over the two days for the sporting. Shoot offs, if required will be held at 5.30pm each day. It should be noted that ALL surplus income from the clay shooting goes to local charities.

ONE LUCKY COMPETITOR COULD WIN £500.00 IN PRIZE MONEY OVER THE 2 DAYS!

12 Bore and 20 Bore Eley cartridges will be on sale at the Clay Shooting tent for the duration of the Fair. Competitors are encouraged to buy Eley cartridges as a percentage of each box sold will be donated to local charities.
